Korea received 62,096 IP applications in June, up 22.0% year on year. By right type, these covered 25,267 patents, 31,948 trademarks, 4,679 designs, and 202 utility models.
From January through June, IP applications totaled 350,904, up 20.6% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 141,259 patents, 180,751 trademarks, 27,581 designs, and 1,313 utility models.
Registrations
A total of 32,073 IP rights were registered in June, down 2.0% year on year. These included 13,246 patents, 14,765 trademarks, 3,954 designs, and 108 utility models.
From January through June, registrations totaled 198,109, down 2.6% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 76,952 patents, 99,031 trademarks, 21,558 designs, and 568 utility models.
Requests for examination
There were 18,860 requests for examination in June, up 19.7% year on year. They comprised requests relating to 18,686 patents and 174 utility models.
From January through June, requests for examination totaled 105,464, up 15.7% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 104,359 patents and 1,105 utility models.
Requests for trial
Requests for trial totaled 723 in June, up 13.5% year on year. The cases concerned 224 patents, 462 trademarks, 37 designs, and 0 utility models.
From January through June, requests for trial totaled 3,818, up 1.1% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 1,229 patents, 2,398 trademarks, 175 designs, and 16 utility models.
