Korea received 63,948 IP applications in August, up 17.2% year on year. By right type, these covered 25,229 patents, 33,155 trademarks, 5,059 designs, and 505 utility models.
From January through August, IP applications totaled 481,908, up 18.5% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 193,563 patents, 248,022 trademarks, 37,753 designs, and 2,570 utility models.
Registrations
A total of 31,995 IP rights were registered in August, down 2.4% year on year. These included 13,429 patents, 14,827 trademarks, 3,640 designs, and 99 utility models.
From January through August, registrations totaled 263,355, down 3.3% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 104,535 patents, 129,026 trademarks, 29,023 designs, and 771 utility models.
Requests for examination
There were 18,413 requests for examination in August, up 13.4% year on year. They comprised requests relating to 17,948 patents and 465 utility models.
From January through August, requests for examination totaled 144,312, up 15.7% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 142,004 patents and 2,308 utility models.
Requests for trial
Requests for trial totaled 547 in August, up 3.6% year on year. The cases concerned 163 patents, 348 trademarks, 32 designs, and 4 utility models.
From January through August, requests for trial totaled 4,949, up 0.2% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 1,610 patents, 3,078 trademarks, 239 designs, and 22 utility models.
