Korea received 66,882 IP applications in July, up 9.3% year on year. By right type, these covered 27,075 patents, 34,039 trademarks, 5,016 designs, and 752 utility models.
From January through July, IP applications totaled 417,880, up 18.7% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 168,334 patents, 214,826 trademarks, 32,655 designs, and 2,065 utility models.
Registrations
A total of 33,255 IP rights were registered in July, down 6.7% year on year. These included 14,154 patents, 15,168 trademarks, 3,829 designs, and 104 utility models.
From January through July, registrations totaled 231,361, down 3.4% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 91,106 patents, 114,199 trademarks, 25,384 designs, and 672 utility models.
Requests for examination
There were 20,255 requests for examination in July, up 17.2% year on year. They comprised requests relating to 19,533 patents and 722 utility models.
From January through July, requests for examination totaled 125,789, up 16.0% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 123,955 patents and 1,834 utility models.
Requests for trial
Requests for trial totaled 621 in July, down 2.5% year on year. The cases concerned 211 patents, 376 trademarks, 32 designs, and 2 utility models.
From January through July, requests for trial totaled 4,419, up 0.2% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 1,445 patents, 2,749 trademarks, 207 designs, and 18 utility models.
