Korea received 64,852 IP applications in September, up 7.2% year on year. By right type, these covered 26,819 patents, 32,640 trademarks, 5,161 designs, and 232 utility models.
From January through September, IP applications totaled 546,905, up 17.1% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 220,382 patents, 280,741 trademarks, 42,980 designs, and 2,802 utility models.
Registrations
A total of 33,056 IP rights were registered in September, down 18.3% year on year. These included 14,095 patents, 15,172 trademarks, 3,703 designs, and 86 utility models.
From January through September, registrations totaled 296,408, down 5.2% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 118,627 patents, 144,198 trademarks, 32,726 designs, and 857 utility models.
Requests for examination
There were 20,153 requests for examination in September, up 5.1% year on year. They comprised requests relating to 19,964 patents and 189 utility models.
From January through September, requests for examination totaled 164,600, up 14.4% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 162,089 patents and 2,511 utility models.
Requests for trial
Requests for trial totaled 620 in September, up 6.5% year on year. The cases concerned 154 patents, 441 trademarks, 22 designs, and 3 utility models.
From January through September, requests for trial totaled 5,560, up 0.7% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 1,764 patents, 3,509 trademarks, 262 designs, and 25 utility models.
