Korea received 73,396 IP applications in October, up 40.2% year on year. By right type, these covered 30,871 patents, 36,725 trademarks, 5,587 designs, and 213 utility models.
From January through October, IP applications totaled 620,676, up 19.5% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 251,253 patents, 317,819 trademarks, 48,589 designs, and 3,015 utility models.
Registrations
A total of 34,932 IP rights were registered in October, down 17.3% year on year. These included 14,255 patents, 17,188 trademarks, 3,407 designs, and 82 utility models.
From January through October, registrations totaled 331,340, down 6.6% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 132,882 patents, 161,386 trademarks, 36,133 designs, and 939 utility models.
Requests for examination
There were 23,106 requests for examination in October, up 23.5% year on year. They comprised requests relating to 22,935 patents and 171 utility models.
From January through October, requests for examination totaled 187,794, up 15.5% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 185,105 patents and 2,689 utility models.
Requests for trial
Requests for trial totaled 640 in October, up 14.3% year on year. The cases concerned 149 patents, 466 trademarks, 25 designs, and 0 utility models.
From January through October, requests for trial totaled 6,196, up 1.9% compared with the same period in 2025. The breakdown by right type was 1,914 patents, 3,968 trademarks, 289 designs, and 25 utility models.
